Featuring the $15,000 Big E "Opening Night" Hunter Classic!

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 16 – 7:00 p.m.

This special event at The Big E has increased it’s prize money and is open to all horses or ponies that have entered and shown in at least two over fences classes at The Big E this year. It is a two round competition with open numerical scoring conducted under the Hunter Classic format. The top twelve scores will return for round two. The scores from round one will carry over to be added to the scores from round two to determine the final results. This class will be conducted using two fence heights, 3′ and 3’3″ to accommodate as many exhibitors as possible. Although, it will be pinned as ONE class. Proper attire is required. Prize money and ribbons will be awarded to the top twelve. (There will be NO jog required.)

Horses in the hunter division are judged on both performance and conformation. When being shown over fences, hunters should maintain an even hunting pace, or a speed that would keep them up with the hounds and other horses in a foxhunt. Hunters should have a smooth, even style over the jumps. The jumps, or fences, used in the hunter classes simulate the types of obstacles that would be encountered in the hunting field, such as posts and rails and brush and stone walls. A horse is said to have jumped “clean” if no faults are scored against him. A fault is an error, such as knocking a jump down. In hunter classes, light touches by the horse are not counted except when elimination is difficult. If you have questions or need assistance please call 413-205-5016 or email hshow1@TheBigE.com
