Purpose

To promote and encourage excellence in the FFA through development of outstanding scholarship, leadership and supervised agricultural experiences.

To recognize Eastern States winners in the following areas:
  • Star Farmer: Achievement in a production agriculture SAE.
  • Star Agribusiness: Achievement in an agribusiness of SAE.
  • Star Agricultural Placement: Achievement in an agricultural placement SAE, either at an agribusiness or production enterprise.
  • Star Agriscience: Achievement in an agriscience-based SAE (natural resources, research/experimentation or science-based lab).This program may be either placement or entrepreneurial.

Objective

1. To recognize youth in the Eastern Regional FFA who have achieved the Star Award in their respective state in 2023.
2. To educate the fair going public to the fact that agriculture and agribusiness is a vibrant part of the Eastern Region.
3. To promote the work of agriculturalists in the Eastern Region.

Event Rules

  1. Applicant must have received the Star Award in their respective state in the applied category.
  2. Application shall include (please submit in the following order):
  3. All applications should be uploaded on or before September 1, 2024.
  4. Applicant must be in attendance at The Big E on Saturday, September 14, 2024, for the program.
  5. Applicant must not compete in any other Big E FFA competition on Saturday 14, 2024. Please note: this may also conflict with other events during The Big E. Please be sure that you are aware of the FFA Star's schedule.
  6. Candidate must wear official FFA Dress during the interview.

Format

  1. Each candidate will meet the judges in an informal interview on the morning of September 14, 2024. To further verify the applicants' programs and records starting at 8 a.m. in the Grange Building. Specific date and time to be scheduled in advance.
  2. Teams of judges are selected to judge this event. They will each review copies of each candidate's application and records.
  3. Candidates will be available for publicity pictures with the sponsor at 11 a.m.
  4. Candidates, parents, advisors and special guest are invited to a FFA Star Recognition Lunch at 12 noon on the fairgrounds.
  5. The Star Award ceremony will take place before a large audience of fairgoers at approximately 3 p.m.
  6. All candidates are urged to attend the FFA Awards Recognition Program at 6 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Springfield, MA.

Awards are sponsored by Farm Credit East

Awards:
  1. Each candidate will receive a participation stipend
  2. Each winning star will receive a receive $500 monetary award from the program sponsor in addition to their $250 participation stipend.
  3. Each winning Star will receive an appropriate award from The Big E.

The application and awards do not relate to the winners of the Eastern Regional FFA Stars Program sponsored by the National FFA Organization. Judge's decision is FINAL.
